So on my blog, I’m used to giving advice and offering help, I don’t usually ask for it.
Well now I am…
I’m looking for a new book to pick up and get into. I don’t care if it’s part of a series or not. I’m into a lot of fantasy fiction, as most of you know. Does anyone know of a fantasy adventure that includes a romantic element dealing with an elven female and a human male? (ASIDE FROM LORD OF THE RINGS!!!)
I’ve scanned the bookstore shelves, and the few stories that fit that bill, and weren’t more vampire porn, the likes of which we’ve seen too many times, have the genders reversed.
Any recommendations would be helpful, thanks!
Way back I read a fantasy book from the Forgotten Realms stable. It had a half-elven woman and a human man romance along with an adventure. Believe the characters were Arilyn Moonblade and Danilo Thann. Beyond that, I don’t think elves get used in that role as often as they used to.

I’ll look into it. Thanks… these days we’ve got plenty of Vampire stories like that… too many… and it’s driving me nuts! The shelves are literally full of them.

I think Simpsons made fun of that a few years back. One of the better more current episodes.

What haven’t the Simpsons made fun of? 🙂

The 30-year old Dragonlance series by Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman had a complicated relationship between an elfin princess and main character, Tanis, who lived among humans but was the product of an elf raped by a human. He’s mostly rejected by the elves.

Good enough, I’ll add it to the list, thanks!

Can recommend Dragonlance as well! Fantastic books. I’m reading ‘The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant’ at the moment, a classic series. Not necessarily elves involved, BUT excellent writing, and very entertaining. The characters are human, but it’s an alternate reality that the protagonist doesn’t believe is real, so his relationships are… strained. It could supply you with the fodder you’re looking for.

Not sure about elves but have you read the Wheel of Time series, Robert Jordan?

The Doctrine of Labyrinths series, by Sarah Monette.
I’m going out on a limb here, it might not be quite what you’re looking for, (no elves, but lots of fantasy, magic and a different type of relationship altogether with an deliberately awkward lead character) but after being quite dubious myself, the series was an enjoyable read.

Have you read Dune?

Yeah… to be honest, it was somewhat slow moving.

It takes a while but it’s worth it. Big world to build. It’s my favourite book series. I have the Litany Against Fear tattooed on my entire back.
