Okay… I’m told that we’re going into a movie topic today. Let’s see what are we dealing with…

The Lion King (2019)

“CG-animated re-imagining of the 1994 Walt Disney classic The Lion King”

… … …

I quit.

I’m sorry guys, I’m done. To all my readers and followers, thanks for your support throughout all this time.

I’d especially like to thank my family and friends for being so loving and supportive… but this is it, I’m done. I would also like to retract my previous statements about Hollywood originality.

Thanks friends… and farewell!

(Disclaimer: I’m not actually quitting, this was just my attempt to voice my utter disdain for this move by Disney, if it wasn’t painfully obvious.)

  1. Oh, so you just heard about this. I cried out in agony when my hubby told me this. I mean, I love the Lion King. It’s in the top ten list of favorite Disney movies. How frikkin ever, why does Disney insists on remaking their entire collection? It’s so lazy.

    • With you 100%. Lion King is arguably their best movie. I grew up with it…
Now I heard they’re doing a live action remake of Aladdin… and having trouble with casting…

  2. Sadly, this is what Disney does. They take old material, and recycle it by remaking it or turning it into a live action film. Like Beauty and the Beast, and the upcoming Mary Poppins, The Lion King will most likely be a disappointment.

    • Ugh… Mary Poppins… that’s one I always hated. So I don’t feel bad about that, but the others… ugh!

  3. This was a stupid idea when I first heard about it. I’m glad it got so many negative reviews when the remake came out. Why make a live action movie when there’s literally no human characters? At least Jungle Book has Mowgli as a human constant (Yes, I’m aware Jon Favreau made that remake, too).

I used to love The Lion King when I was a kid, but I despite the movie franchise as an adult. Finding out about Kimba the White Lion was a big part of it since Disney legitimately plagiarized most of it’s characters from that 60s anime as well as stealing some plot points, copying scenes, and trying to ban the Jungle Emperor Leo sequel from North America while never owning up to it. I noticed how racist the hyenas were in hindsight by playing up anti-Black and anti-Latinx stereotypes. Not to mention the Elephant Graveyard has genocidal implications if you research the Namibian Genocide (especially Shark Island), Congolese Genocide, or The Devil’s Punchbowl in Mississippi. Last year, I found out that Disney trademarked the phrase “Hakuna Matata” which is pure cultural appropriation and the song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” was plagiarized from the South African song “Mbube” and never gave royalties to Solomon Linda’s family. Don’t believe me, then watch The Lion’s Share which is on Netflix which is all about that plagiarism court case against the licensing company and Disney. I wish there wasn’t so many problematic things associated with that franchise I used to love. I’m glad you thought the remake idea was stupid though.
