So I wanted to take a moment and introduce some of the new characters that will be appearing in the next book. If you’d rather wait until it comes out to read about them, feel free to skip this post.
Sergeant Radley Zall: Radley grew up in Madison, Wisconsin. After his parents died in the Red War, he was moved to an orphanage. He lived peacefully for a few years until Wisconsin came under attack. A dragon that was missing a horn firebombed his orphanage. He was forced to watch as his friends and caretakers were burned alive while being taunted by the dragon. He quickly became a child soldier in the Western Coalition and fought mercilessly to defeat the dragons.
Following the war, he became a deportation officer, moving dragons into the Exclusion Zone. His life’s goal was to find the dragon that murdered his friends. He suffers from PTSD and drinks rather heavily.
Nylie: A small dragon who is the daughter of a dragon that rejected the war and moved his family away from it. She prefers peace to violence, but is not above defending herself or the people she cares about. Though small for her age, she is a capable fighter and wears her heart on her sleeve.
After her father is captured by the Western Coalition, she spends the next few years begging for shelter and food.
Officer Kevin Beirs: Known to the other officers in the deportation squad as ‘Rookie’ he’s barely old enough to remember the war. He doesn’t approve of the treatment the dragons receive at the hands of humanity, but tries to justify it with the war crimes committed by several dragons during the war. He is Radley’s protege.
Captain Allison Garcia: Colombian refugee during the Red War. She joined the Western Coalition and became a chopper pilot. She’s a skilled mechanic and a crack pilot. During the war, she disobeyed orders to open fire on an unprotected dragon’s nest. She was disgraced and transferred to backwater duty as a result. It is a decision she does not regret.
