Hello all,
Welcome back! Let’s dive right in.
(OBLIGATORY SPOILER ALERT HERE:)
“Hi Jim,
What happens to the Empire at the end of the story? It appears that it was being demilitarized and broken up, yet Kaori was still in charge. Does this mean it’s going to continue?
Thanks,
Mike”
Hi Mike,
The Empire will continue to exist. Think Germany after WW1. The country continued to exist, but had to pay reparations to its neighbors. This is a similar situation. Under the new treaty, the Eastern Empire had to return a certain amount of territory it had annexed from the Eastern Coalition. As of Rule of One, the Empire had ceded its gains in Europe and the Middle East. The Empire was allowed to hang onto its far-eastern territory in China, Mongolia, South-East Asia, Australia, Eastern Siberia, Japan, the Coral Sea, and New Zealand.
In addition to territory, the Empire had to surrender a sizable portion of their fleet to replace the losses of the Eastern Coalition. They’ve also agreed to demilitarize, keeping only a small fleet for defense. Kaori, of course, goes back on this by the end of the book as it’s clear that her small navy isn’t enough to defend her territory. As such, she’s ordered some of the ships that were in mothball to be brought back online, including the IAC Colossus, her mother’s former flagship.
So while the Empire has lost a significant amount of territory, a large portion of it’s military, and they’ve had to allow international tribunals to investigate and prosecute members of the Imperial Government for major war crimes and crimes against humanity, the Empire still exists and will continue to do under Kaori’s stewardship.
Hope this answers your question.
Readers, if you liked the book, please take a moment and leave me a quick review or if you’re pressed for time, some simple stars will suffice!! I wouldn’t ask, but the more exposure my book gets, the more copies it sells. Word of mouth is everything in this business! Thanks so much, all! I greatly appreciate it!
Thanks, friends! I’ll catch you on the flip-side!
