Okay, now that I’ve sufficiently bashed pop music in my last post… allow me to extend an olive branch to my readers who listen to said music:
The first song I head by Adele was ‘Rumor Has It’ and… yeah I wasn’t impressed. However my wife loves her. So obviously I was going to be subjected to more of her music. Most of it is serviceable and some of it actually good. Then this song came out… and changed my mind completely. At first it sounds like nothing special, but when it picks up and she hits the line ‘To Tell You I’m Sorry, for breaking your heart…’ it sent chills down my spine.
I’m not a fan of Adele in that I would listen to her songs regularly. They fall way outside of my spectrum, but this song… yeah I included it. It is definitely worth a spectrum jump.
When to listen: Tough call… For me this would be when the hero of a story is at a low point. Either when some key portion of their backstory is revealed where they’re not the shining star everyone thought they were… or they hurt someone they cared about and need to make amends.

Though I admit that there’s very little modern Pop music I care for you can do much worse than Adele. The one or 2 actually 3 forms of music I absolutely deplore and would never use as background music for reading or writing are most cRap (especially gangsta), Hip Hop, and Country. The first is pure mind rot and how anyone can pour this filth into their minds speaks volumes of the youth of today and the ills of our Society (violence, muder, rape, rioting) today. I often hear this trash when travelling publicly or standing outside to smoke a cigie and this garbage is usually blaring out of someone’s headphones or car stereo. Black Sabbath and Heavy Metal in general have nothing on Gangsta cRap and give me the whole Sabbath catalog anyday though not necessarily as bg music. Second…Hip Hop…see #1. Country Music…with the exception of some 70’s & 80’s Pop crossover I pretty much have no tolerance for this pap. Sorry if I offended anyone and if so please accept my apologies. Happy Holidays and New Year!
